A painter in action

We got a wake-up call around 7:30 am so we would be able to allot time to eat breakfast downstairs at the hotel. The plans for today were hiking on Wutong Hill and a tour at Dafen Oil Painting Village. After finishing breakfast, everyone boarded the bus to Wutong Hill. I felt embarrassed since I was literally the last one to board the bus since I was a few minutes late but I don’t remember the reason.

First stop: Wutong Hill

The tour guide told us that the hike up this mountain is different than yesterday’s hike. This mountain takes around 5 hours to hike up so we wouldn’t be able to finish the hike today. Besides, the weather was still as humid as yesterday so our pace would be quite slow. In the beginning, as I began to walk up, I thought it wouldn’t be too bad since the hills weren’t too steep. Well, it didn’t matter because the lack of wind and the suffocating air made the walk excruciatingly painful. I stopped for ice-cream, which only cooled me down for 15 minutes. My friends and I made several rest stops in order to take pictures and cool down. Additionally, the view was concealed by fog so there wasn’t much we can enjoy.

With only an hour left, I asked a couple, who was hiking down, how long it took them to make it to the top. They said from here, it would take another 2 hours. I translated the information I got to my friends and we decided to make our way back down. My trip back down was so much more pleasant than up. As we hiked down, we met many hikers, who wanted to take photos with Oye and Josh, reenacting the scene from Guilin. Oye actually already earned some money before I met her as we hiked down.

After the hike, the next stop was the Dafen Oil Painting Village. Out of all the places in Shenzhen, I loved this place the most. As an artist, I couldn’t stop browsing through the artworks I passed by. Besides artworks, there were also painters who sitting in the middle of the street creating a piece of artwork. I wished they had an area for visitors to show their artistic creativity. I saw two pieces that I really liked but waited until the very end to ensure that I still wanted to purchase them, which wasn’t a good idea since I had to run through mazes to finally find the shop where I saw the paintings.

Last stop: Shenzhen Electronic Market

Unique architecture building that holds an electronic market inside

Instead of returning with the rest of the group back to the hotel, I went with my friends to visit the electronic market. I had an awesome friend who helped me bought my paintings back to the hotel. The electronic district was an area of large shopping malls situated on both sides of street. We decided to enter this non-fancy building because it seems more like a bargain market and we were right. From cell phones to batteries to phone cases to 3D virtual reality, the building was an electronic fantasy. I originally didn’t plan on buying anything but I bought something as usual; I bought a fashionable wallet with a power bank inside and I didn’t regret it.

Swiping through the list of things to do in Shenzhen, the four of us decided to take the metro to Luohu Commercial City, which was we found out was near the railway station. Here, we walked around for a little and decided to eat at Ajisen Ramen because we were really hungry at that point.

By the time we reached the hotel, it was around 10 pm. I visited my friends and we hung out for a bit in one of their rooms. Then, I went back to my room and rest since we would be traveling to Hong Kong the next day.
