Today was the last day I would spend in Beijing before I board a sleeper train back to Shanghai. Once I arrive, I would have to immediately go to class since I decided to take an overnight train back. The last place I planned on going was the Temple of Heaven.
First stop: Temple of Heaven
The temple was only a ten minutes walk away so I decided to go on the very last day. I checked out early and stored my luggage with the hotel. I liked the Temple of Heaven a lot because there weren’t as much tourists as the Forbidden Palace. It was also large enough that I could find a quiet place for myself.
Next stop: Peking duck for lunch
For lunch, I decided to get Peking duck since it’s Beijing, so I had to try out the specialty dish Peking duck. I went to a well-known restaurant that served Peking duck and since it was lunch, it wasn’t as busy. I was seated immediately and I ordered their set lunch.
After lunch, I walked around the area and there were plenty of restaurants and gift shops where I shopped for an hour before walking back to the hotel to grab my stuff. After I got back my luggage, I walked to the McDonalds in the hotel right next to the mall to past some time before taking the metro to the railway station.
Last stop: Sleeper train back to Shanghai
I bought a soft sleeper ticket so I slept in a room with three other travelers. It was different from the hard sleeper and the hard seat since it was more private and a bit much more comfortable. I fell asleep early and woke up around 5 am seeing the sun rising through the window.
