First Stop: Breakfast with Meg
So the next day, I woke up early to make sure I was on time to meet up with Meg. She works near Roppongi so she told me to wait near this huge spider statue, which I spotted easily.
We walked down to the undergrounds and finally decided to eat brunch at this Yakitori place. Haven’t seen each other for a semester, we updated each other what was going on with our lives. I asked about JSA and what was the new update. After brunch, I walked into the building she worked at and realized she was interning at Google --- WOW! We chatted for a few more minutes until I left and decided to browse the Mori Art Museum since it was since raining.
Next stop: Mori Art Museum
It was similar to Taipei 101 where you can see the whole city from the top except it was raining so the photos didn’t came out as great. They also have a Sailor Moon exhibition but I wasn’t a huge fan so I didn’t line up to enter. After the Sailor Moon exhibition, I walked to the main art exhibition. Not a huge museum lover, I was pleasantly surprised by how engaged I was at the museum. The museum had a mixed of science, society, and culture; for example an exhibition of the family of a lesbian couple, an Indonesian grocery store, etc.
Next stop: Asakusa
My friend Shella highly recommended this place so I knew I had to allocate time to visit. I wished I had more time and enjoyed tea at a tea ceremony while dressed in a kimono. I walked around streets that made me reminisce the times I strolled down the night streets of Taipei and Suzhou.
Stocked with souvenir-worthy goods, I shopped for a little more than an hour and ended up purchasing a kimono and a pair of chopsticks with an engraving of my father’s name. Reluctantly parting from this shopping haven, I boarded the subway to meet up with my Japanese class buddies Talia and Evan at Shinjuku.
Last stop: Dinner with Talia & Evan at Shinjuku
We toured Golding Gai which was an area lined with bars and pubs. The time was still early so all of the shops were closed waiting for the night to settle in. We ate at a Japanese fast food restaurant filled with the sounds of delicious steaming platters of steak. After dinner, we got dessert from a Hokkaido cheese tart shop in the subway station. Like Talia has boasted, their cheese tarts are amazing, so amazing that I can still remember the taste vividly.
Once I got back to the hostel, only Till was there. I offered him the last cheese tart I had and he liked it very much.
